Tiger Partners, the leading recruitment to recruitment consultancy in Asia, announces the official launch of Vocay, a new product that connects recruiters with opportunities.
The Hong Kong and Singapore-based career website offers a one-stop destination for recruiters to discover opportunities, hiring managers to work with, great companies to work for and career guidance. The new career website has already partnered with the likes of agencies such as Randstad, SThree, Phaidon International, ConnectedGroup, Eames Consulting Group and RGF Executive Search.
Co-Founder of Vocay, Cameron Smart, comments “Vocay is specialised in the recruitment industry and was designed from the ground up around the questions that candidates frequently asked us at Tiger Partners that they couldn’t find online.”
The scarcity of the candidate pool in the recruitment industry means that proactive headhunting and networking is often the most used and successful strategy when it comes to hiring great recruiters. Because of this, there is limited information available online and it can sometimes be difficult for recruiters to know who’s hiring without doing proactive research, networking or speaking to a recruitment to recruitment agency.
Founder of Charterhouse Partnership and Co-Founder of Vocay, Roger Smart, says that “this can be tough to manage, especially when recruiters are focussed on closing deals in their own job. On the flip side, the scarce nature of the market creates one of the biggest barriers to scaling a recruitment business. Headhunting is time consuming, outsourcing it to an agency doesn’t guarantee you the right candidate immediately and it can become costly.”
Vocay aims to provide a solution by offering a career platform for recruiters; a one-stop destination where recruiters can discover all recruitment opportunities and connect with hiring managers in a confidential and transparent manner.
Discover opportunities and connect with hiring managers
Recruiters can discover opportunities by using the jobs page. By signing up, they can see exactly who the hiring managers for roles are, before they apply. Job posts also include pictures of the local office they’ll potentially be working in.
The “Ping” system replaces an application system. Recruiters can easily network with hiring managers by clicking the Ping button, which indicates to the manager that they’d like to have a confidential chat about the opportunity. Ping’s can be personalised and recruiters can simply request a casual, offsite cup of coffee.
We know it’s not easy to find the right opportunity straight away, so passive recruiters can also subscribe for weekly opportunity alerts or save jobs for later, too.
In addition, in the world of agency recruitment, nearly all hiring managers have their ears open when it comes to meeting recruiters who have a track record in a specific practice, regardless of whether they’re hiring or not. Using the managers page and recruitment specific filters, recruiters can quickly identify hiring managers in their practice, desk type and location. This will bring up a shortlist of managers that the recruiter can potentially work with. Once you’ve found a hiring manager that specialises in your practice, you can Ping them for a chat, even if they’re not advertising jobs.
Hiring managers on Vocay can also request employee recommendations by asking their current or former team members to describe their experience working for them. This will display on a job post and on their profile. This will help recruiters who are considering reaching out to that manager understand what it’s like working with them, before they apply.
Explore offices and company culture
The job or the manager are crucial considerations when it comes to finding the right home, but another significant consideration is the company and its culture. As a recruiter, you’re probably familiar with job boards, seeing lists of thousands of companies, each with a profile nearly identical to the other. This makes it hard for candidates to picture life at that company, but Vocay is taking a different approach. They invest a lot of time in a handful of employers, to bring each profile to life. Each company profile has a consistent layout with key components at the top, including their jobs and hiring managers. As you scroll down, profiles will start to look different as companies express their unique culture with custom sections they’ve built. Check out Randstad’s Hong Kong office below.
In the right sidebar of company profiles, you can also view who the first point of contact for opportunities at that company is. Vocay uses geotargeting technology for the Hong Kong and Singapore markets, so if you’re in Hong Kong, you’ll see the first point of contact for Hong Kong and vice versa for Singapore. If you like the look of the company but can’t spot a job for you, it’s now really easy to identify and reach out to the decision maker directly. While a company profile can be found through job and manager profiles, it can also be searched by filters such as practice and location, in the directory here.
The website also offers a career-focussed publication which is structured to help recruiters get ahead of the game in their current role and also offers advice for changing roles. The blog is supported by influential contributors and so far Vocay has had the opportunity to publish content in partnership with recruitment leaders, entrepreneurs and visionaries including Natellie Sun (Managing Director of Greater Search & Selection, Randstad Greater China), Alan Anwar (Founder and Managing Director of Datasearch Consulting) and Andrea Ross (Founder and Managing Director of The Career Establishment).
Roger and Cameron thought of the idea years back. They put the plan into motion in October 2019 and the first meetings to discuss the concept took place with clients in Hong Kong. Since then, the world has changed drastically and is experiencing a devastating medical crisis and a challenging economic climate. Sadly, many great recruiters have lost their jobs.
Vocay’s launch coincides with the current climate and we feel that we have a part to play. We hope that our new product can help recruiters connect with opportunities. We launch with a small number of jobs, but as we grow, this number will increase exponentially.
There are a number of companies who are also interviewing, but not actively hiring and would make a hire should the right case be presented to the decision maker. The manager directory helps recruiters proactively reach out to decision makers, even if there are no jobs advertised, so conversations can begin to take place.
